I have been thinking to blog on this topic for a very long time but had retracted cuz it would seem like im following the footsteps of a certain someone. But as always temptation prevails and here i am blogging away on what i thought i must not.
Right, before i go further let me tell you this is just about atheism and not a debate to decide whether "there is a god or not" (i would be buying less enemies this way). So all the people who believe you are up for an interesting and controversial take on religion, sorry to say that i have disappointed you.
I dont know from when people have been under the (forced?) impression that there exists a divine force... But i know that i, from a very young age have never been too drawn towards god, which was helped by the fact that both my parents are atheists. The religious ceremonies, which are seldom short and difficult to understand why they are being performed, always exhausted me. You might ask how i attended them when my parents are atheists. But that sort of the point - only my parents are atheists and not my whole family.
Yes, I am an atheist and a proud one too. I relish the fact that I have not much company in this aspect. I always argue with the more religious of my colleagues and compatriots - who are sometimes disgusted by the fact that i dont believe in god and dont respect the absurd compulsions of religion - and i actually managed in convincing one of them to be like me!! Amazing. though of course i should also say i failed in a lot many other cases. Also - i am not on a mission like the Christian Missionaries to turn everyone into atheists - it just happened that the guy in question seemed to realise the truth.
Someone said (hmm.. who is this someone? seems strikingly similar to someone i know..) "The ones who need no troubles to be added to their already considerable amount believe in atheism."
Robert Langdon/ Tom Hanks says " My mind tells me that i will never understand god... My heart tells me that im not meant to."
Or as the atheists in London famously put it "Maybe there is no God at all. So stop worrying and live your life." in their highly successful recent campaign.
