Image and Imagination

For the people born in the new millennium, I have observed that it is harder to imagine. They have been brought up with TV and computers and other visual elements around them. They have been isolated from books and stuff. How do you imagine something when everything is presented in visuals and images to you already? There is no scope for individualistic thoughts when your imagination is taken away. Therefore not only are the people of this generation less imaginative, they are also less intelligent. When you read books, you imagine all the details in your own way. But when you dont read books, you only see and do not imagine. That is why, a book is always better than it's movie adaptation. You imagine it in your own way and the director's interpretation doesn't match (in most cases). With time, as imagination is slowly and completely repressed, it is easy to control people. Maybe George Orwell's prophetic vision in his book "1984" might come true, albei

Age Discrimination

Discrimination is found in every society. It might be due to race, class, caste, religion or any other type. I have recently come across a lesser known or observed discrimination - discrimination by age. Have you ever noticed that when a small group of youngsters get together and start having fun, all the adults passing by stare and scowl at them? By having fun, I don't mean smoking or drinking or something like that. Maybe they are just talking, a tad high on the decibel level. Yet, everyone has to look at them and act like they are a nuisance. But when adults do the same thing (or even worse), nobody bothers. This is what I call age discrimination. Recently, there was a marriage ceremony near my house. Those arses were playing loud music till almost 2 in the night. It must have started at about 8. Also, most of the people were drunk and were acting in a very vulgar and cheap way. Yet, no police stopped this real nuisance and nobody scowled at them, damning them to

Andy Serkis - The Future of Acting?

Until the recent past, actors could play only a certain type of roles. Most roles that we see in films are of humans themselves. Some roles (like aliens, monsters, etc) are also seen in films. Most of these characters are played by actors under heavy costumes and make up or created on a computer. Make up and costumes look cheap and unconvincing. Visual effects can be breathtaking, but other aspects like facial expressions and the little details cannot be captured intimately by visual effects. Neither of these methods can be deemed as being completely satisfactory. Enter live motion capture and it's cinematic champion, Andy Serkis. Serkis as King Kong in the 2005 film of the same name Unlike most actors, Serkis prefers doing roles that are not human. "Gollum" of "Lord of the Rings", "King Kong" and "Caesar" from "Rise of the Plante of the Apes" are some of Serkis' well known roles. This is achieved by using the tec

Random Observations - Part 5

Ah, well. Random Observations! Been a while, eh? Let's do this! RO #1 The frisking job must be a dream job for homosexuals. RO #2 A sign I saw recently read "No cell phone driving". I dont think anybody ever tried to drive a cell phone. No matter how high you are, if you see a phone, you wouldn't feel like driving it. You might feel like chucking it out of the window, you might have the urge to call your ex, but never, ever will the thought, "Hey, why don't I ride this thing?" come to mind. RO #3 Indians probably go to other countries and call white people as "foreigners". RO #4 The female anopheles mosquito can cause malaria, which can prove to be fatal. To the female anopheles I say this "Leave us alone, we have our own females to kill us." (Again, this doesn't apply to my female followers. Obviously.) P.S If you're interested to see the other parts of the ROs, here's the link  http://amritkosar
